Metal Particle Detector
DETECTS DANGEROUS WEAR IN LUBRICATED MACHINERY
![]() |
The Grid-Switch Metal Particle Detector provides ultra-reliable detection of dangerous wear in any lubricated machinery including engines, compressors, pumps, gear boxes, turbines, draw works, etc. Housed in a heavy duty enclosure, the unit is triggered by metal particles in the lubricating oil, the first failure sign of bearings, pistons, gears, crossheads, and other moving parts. The Grid-Switch can be utilized to actuate an alarm and/or stop the engine or equipment. |
|
In operation, the unit provides a continuous sampling of the lubricating oil for minute particles of metal. It is installed in a 1/4" to 1/2" line at the discharge of the oil pump before the filter and discharges back into the oil sump or crankcase. The oil flows through a perforated grid element covered by a printed circuit consisting of two interposed grids. When metal builds up on the elements to bridge the gap between the two grids, the circuit is completed. A relay then may be used to actuate the desired alarm - visual or audible - shutdown devices |
